Engagement Shoot Tips
Working with my couples on their engagement shoot is one of my favorite parts of being a photographer! It’s a portrait session with the added bonus of two subjects who already know and love each other. Below are a few ideas to keep in mind in the days leading up to your shoot, including tips for the most common question – what should we wear?! Along with these tips my best advice is to be timeless, have fun, and most importantly – be yourselves : )
– Color, style, and fit. This may just be the trifecta of a perfect outfit! If you’re drawn to the styling in my images, you’ll notice that muted tones work best without stealing focus. Color is also nothing to shy away from however, as you can see in the pictures on this page that a pop of coral or turquoise here and there can be a statement that will make your pictures sing.
– You should feel good. AKA, this is a perfect opportunity to buy that pair of shoes you’ve had your eye on. If you both feel confident in what you’re wearing, it will undoubtedly show.
– Clothes that fit well and flatter your figure. For a photo shoot, I would personally choose a top that fits well before one that only looks good when I’m stretching it a certain way in the mirror, even if it’s my favorite!
– Hair and Makeup. Having hair and/or makeup done is what usually tips the scales from just liking a picture to loving it. If you’re going the DIY route, be sure to give yourself more than enough time beforehand so that you’re not rushed. (Trying to do your makeup in the bathroom on the way from work, etc.) Which leads me to the next point…
– Arriving on time! In a perfect world, I’d be 5 minutes ahead of schedule for every day. The real world however is a different story! I schedule shoots at a certain hour of the day to achieve a signature style of images, and when everyone arrives on time it allows us to get the most out of our time together.
Lastly, I absolutely love when clients send me pictures of their outfit ideas! I am more than happy to make a suggestion, or tip the scale on the decision of one top vs. another. The whole process is a great way to get to know each other, and to nail down the details ahead of time.
